I’ve never really done anything special for New Year’s. No parties, no champagne toasts, no kisses at midnight. Even growing up, I was the teenager sitting at home, knitting with the seniors while everyone else was out celebrating. I’d think about all the time I lost, the things I didn’t get done in the past year, the chances that would never return. My collection of small disappointments always added up to a sum more overwhelming than the parts. I had painted myself into an emotional corner.

But over the years, I’ve learned that the past—horrible, heavy, or just plain expected—is always in the rearview mirror. Looking back weighs us down. If we want to reach for real progress, genuine hope, we must look forward. The past is gone. Yesterday’s world is gone. And honestly? Good riddance.

Is some of it worth reclaiming? Sure. But let’s reclaim it anew. Let’s revive the good things in a different light, reimagine them with fresh energy. Let’s dare to dream of newer, better possibilities—ones we haven’t even considered yet. This isn’t something to fear. It’s something to celebrate.

Even in the darkest moments, there’s light. There’s possibility. There’s always something worth looking forward to. Here’s to looking ahead. Here’s to letting go of what was and embracing what could be. Here’s to building something brighter, together.

It’s time to build a new year for ourselves. A new world, actually. Because it’s the end of this world as we know it.

Looking forward,
